Robots aren’t just running isolated AI models; they’re performing real-time sensor fusion across cameras, radar, LiDAR, GPS, and IMUs. This requires high-throughput, low-latency pipelines directly on-device. Shipping raw data to the cloud for integration is infeasible.

The implication is clear: robotics AI stacks demand SoCs architected with specialized accelerators tuned to this fusion workload. Phones, by comparison, mostly apply AI to bursty, app-level tasks (image enhancement, speech recognition, or summarization) where hybrid edge-cloud models suffice.

In consumer electronics, edge AI enhances the experience. In robotics, edge AI enables the experience. Without it, autonomy collapses.
